The Committee notes the replies sent by the Government in relation to Article 2, paragraph 1, and Article 5 of the Convention. It wishes to draw the Government’s attention to the following point.

Article 4, paragraph 2, of the Convention. Statement appearing in the seafarer’s identity document. In 2005, the Government indicated that, pending the preparation of a seafarers’ identity document including biometric data, a stamp indicating that the seafarers’ books constitute seafarers’ identity documents for the purposes of the Convention, would be applied on any new seafarers’ books issued. In its 2006 report, the Government merely indicates that instructions will be issued to the local maritime administration so that the statement appears in these books. The Committee therefore asks the Government, once again, to take the necessary measures to ensure that the statement envisaged in this Article of the Convention appears both in new seafarers’ books and in seafarers’ books already in existence, for instance by applying a stamp, and to provide a specimen of the modified book.
