The Committee takes note of the observations of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) received on 1 September 2016, which are of a general nature.
The Committee recalls that in its previous direct requests it noted that a comprehensive law on freedom of association was being prepared, designed to unify all existing legislation on the matter in one single act, and to further implement relevant ILO Conventions and Recommendations, as well as the Caribbean Community Model Law on the Recognition, Status and Registration of Trade Unions.
The Committee notes that the Government indicates that in August 2013 a draft law on Freedom of Association was submitted to the Council of Ministers and that once the latter approves it the law will be submitted to the National Assembly. Recalling that the Government may avail itself of the technical assistance of the Office, the Committee hopes that the Government will soon be able to report progress on this legislative process and requests it to inform of any developments and to send a copy of the law once adopted.
