Article 4(2) of the Convention. Requirements of seafarers’ identity documents. The Committee had requested the Government to insert a statement in the seafarer’s identity document indicating that it is a seafarer’s identity document for the purpose of the Convention, as required under its Article 4(2). The Committee notes that the copy of the sample seafarer’s identity document annexed to the Government’s report is the same as the one that had been examined in previous comments. The Committee therefore reiterates its request.
The Committee notes the Government’s information that: (1) since the adoption of the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention (Revised), 2003 (No. 185), it has reviewed the issuance process of seafarers’ identity documents with a view to potential ratification of this Convention; and (2) further analysis and evaluation are required regarding potential technical upgrades of the current seafarers’ identity documents system based on a two dimensional barcode, in order to ensure conformity with Convention No. 185, as amended in 2016.
