The Committee notes the Government’s first report on the application of the Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188). It further notes that the Government previously ratified three Conventions on work in fishing which have been denounced following the entry into force of the Convention No. 188 for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following a first review of the information and documents available, the Committee draws the Government’s attention to the following issues. If considered necessary, the Committee may come back to other matters at a later stage.
Article 2 of the Convention. Scope of application. The Committee notes the Government’s indication that there is no commercial fishing neither fishers nor fishing vessels in the country, as defined by the Convention. The Committee further notes that, according to the information available, commercial fishing in rivers and lakes is banned in Bosnia and Herzegovina whose coastline is less than 13 km in length. In light of the above, the Committee observes that the Convention is currently without object for Bosnia and Herzegovina and requests the Government to keep it informed of any developments on the fishing sector which may bear an impact on the application of the Convention.
