Allegations

The complainant alleges that Apparel Tri-Star Ltd., a private company in the garment industry, refused to recognize the Uganda Textiles, Garments, Leather and Allied Workers’ Union (UTGLAWU) and resorted to intimidation tactics, including the dismissal of 293 workers, while the Government failed to enforce its own laws in respect of trade union recognition. The complainant also alleges an intolerable situation of persisting ambiguity with regard to the legal requirements for trade union recognition, and a lack of adequate machinery against anti-union discrimination
