Effect given to the recommendations of the Committee and the Governing Body

Effect given to the recommendations of the Committee and the Governing Body
  1. 22. The Committee examined this case at its March 1997 meeting (see 306th Report, paras. 152 to 176), when it insisted that the Government take measures to ensure that the fines imposed on the trade unions of the Single Federation of Oil Workers for their participation in strikes in the PETROBRAS enterprise in 1995 are annulled.
  2. 23. The Committee notes with satisfaction that in its communication dated 2 September 1998 the Government informs it that Act No. 9689, adopted on 14 July 1998, cancelled the fines imposed by the Supreme Labour Tribunal on the trade unions of the Single Federation of Oil Workers for their participation in strikes in the PETROBRAS enterprise in 1995.
  3. 24. However, the Committee once again requests the Government to consult the social partners on the content of Bill No. 1802/96 (which regulates the imposition of fines in the event of strikes deemed to be abusive or illegal) and hopes that the final text will take into account the results of these consultations and the principles set forth in the conclusions contained in the 306th Report of the Committee (paras. 171 to 175).
