Convenio sobre el certificado de aptitud de los cocineros de buque, 1946 (núm. 69) - Jersey

Article 1 of the Convention. Scope of application. The Committee notes the Government’s information that there are at present no ships registered in Jersey engaged in the transport of cargo or passengers for the purpose of trade, and therefore there is no need for specific legislation giving effect to the provisions of the Convention. The Committee takes this opportunity to recall that Convention No. 69, together with 67 other international maritime labour instruments, is revised by the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006). Minimum standards on the training and qualifications of ships’ cooks are now incorporated in Regulation 3.2(3), Standard A3.2(3), (4), (6) and (8), and Guideline B3.2.2 of the MLC, 2006. The Committee wishes to draw the Government’s attention in particular to the very broad definition of “ship” contained in Article II(1)(i) and the all-inclusive scope of the MLC, 2006, which is meant to cover all seafarers (Article II(2)) and all ships (Article II(4)). The Committee requests the Government to provide up-to-date information of a general nature regarding the type of ships currently registered in Jersey and the number of ships’ cooks serving on these ships. In addition, the Committee would also be grateful if the Government would provide information of any developments regarding the process of ratification and effective implementation of the MLC, 2006.
