Articles 1(1), 2(1) and 25 of the Convention. Trafficking in persons. The Committee notes the information provided by the Government in its report concerning various anti-trafficking measures undertaken by the Government during the reporting period, such as various human trafficking training activities for the law enforcement agencies, as well as public sensitization and awareness-raising programmes. It also notes statistical information showing the number of people rescued from human trafficking, as well as the number of investigations and prosecutions. Noting also the Government’s indications in the report concerning the difficulties encountered, such as the lack of resources and shelters for rescued victims, as well as the Government’s intention to establish more shelters throughout the country, the Committee requests the Government to continue to describe, in its future reports, measures taken or envisaged to overcome the existing difficulties and, in particular, to enhance the efficiency of the law enforcement mechanism. Please continue to provide information on the legal proceedings, which have been instituted under the Human Trafficking Act, 2005, indicating the penalties imposed on perpetrators.
