Convention (n° 159) sur la réadaptation professionnelle et l'emploi des personnes handicapées, 1983 - Burkina Faso (Ratification: 1989)

1. The Committee notes the Government’s report which indicates the applicable legislative provisions and states that there are rehabilitation centres which are run by the State, privately or by associations of disabled persons. It asks the Government to indicate in its next report how the national policy is implemented in practice and the measures that have been taken to promote employment opportunities for disabled persons, such as specialized vocational guidance, vocational training and placement (Articles 2 and 3 of the Convention).

2. Article 5. The Committee asks the Government to explain how the consultations required by this provision are held in practice indicating, for example, matters relevant to the Convention dealt with during the period covered by the next report.

3. Article 7. The Committee notes that the services responsible for the measures referred to in Article 7 regularly assess activities and programmes so that they can make the necessary adaptations. The Committee asks the Government to provide information on the application of this Article indicating, for example, for the period covered by the next report, the content of evaluations and the adaptations proposed, adopted or envisaged to enable disabled persons to secure, retain and advance in employment.

4. Article 8. Noting that bodies and associations for handicapped persons have been established in the provinces, the Committee asks the Government to specify the associations, rural areas and remote communities in which they are located and the activities they carry out in the area of vocational rehabilitation and employment.

5. Article 5. Part V of the report form. Please also give a general appreciation of the manner in which the Convention is applied including, for example, statistics, extracts of available reports, studies or surveys on the questions covered by the Convention.
