Article 5 of the Convention. Limitation of the scope of application of the Convention. The Committee recalls that the application of the Convention was limited to the branches of economic activity set forth in Article 5(3), namely mining and quarrying; manufacturing; construction; electricity, gas and water; sanitary services; transport, storage and communication; and plantations and other agricultural undertakings mainly producing for commercial purposes, but excluding family and small-scale holdings producing for local consumption and not regularly employing hired workers. Recalling that, according to the National Children Working Survey 2018, a majority of children are involved in child labour in the agricultural sector and family enterprises, the Committee requests the Government to provide information on: (i) the general position as regards the employment or work of children in the branches of activity which are excluded from the scope of application of the Convention; and (ii) any progress made towards a wider application of the provisions of the Convention, in accordance with Article 5(4)(a) of the Convention.
