The Committee expresses its appreciation of the detailed information and statistics provided by the Government, in its report received in August 2012, concerning the operation of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) and the work permits granted to foreigners.
Maternity benefit. Recalling that Guatemala accepted the obligations of the Convention regarding maternity benefits, the Committee asks the Government to keep it informed in its next report of any legislative amendments liable to affect the application of the Convention as regards maternity benefits, and to provide statistics and other relevant data on the effect given to the Convention in practice as regards maternity.
Programme for the protection of migrant families (PROFAMI). The Committee notes the survey conducted by the IGSS with a view to implementing PROFAMI and offering health insurance in Guatemala to family members of workers who are abroad as well as pension insurance and life insurance for such workers. The Committee invites the Government to report on the follow-up to the survey, indicating any progress in the implementation of the programme.
