The Committee notes with deep concern that, the first report on the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention (Revised), 2003, as amended (No. 185), due since 2022, has not been received. The Committee also notes that eight reports were received this year of the 16 requested. Eight reports are still due for this country including the first reports on the application of the Social Security (Minimum Standards) Convention, 1952 (No. 102), and the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006). Some of the reports due, including on fundamental Conventions, should have included information in reply to the Committee’s comments.
The Committee launches an urgent appeal to the Government to send its first report on Convention No. 185 without delay, and advises it that, even in the absence of this report, the Committee may fully review the application of the Convention at its next meeting on the basis of available information.
The Committee firmly hopes that the Government will soon submit all its reports in accordance with its constitutional obligation and that they will respond to the Committee’s comments. The Committee reminds the Government that it may avail itself of the technical assistance of the Office in this regard.
