Effect given to the recommendations of the committee and the Governing Body
Effect given to the recommendations of the committee and the Governing Body- 26. The Committee last considered this case at its meeting in March 2025
[see 409th Report, paras 68–89] and recalls that it relates to allegations concerning
the attempted poisoning by radioactive contamination, on 9 May 2017, of the assistant
secretary of the “Sindicato de Luz y Fuerza de Zarate” (Zarate Light and Power Union),
Mr Néstor Straschenco, an employee of a public company in the nuclear sector. On that
occasion, the Committee noted that union representative Mr Straschenco, who had gone to
court because he considered himself the victim of attempted poisoning, had been charged
with sabotage following a judicial investigation by the Federal Court of Campana. The
Committee also noted that the criminal proceedings against the union representative were
pending resolution and that the complainant organization had not provided any
information on the matter since its last communication in 2018. In view of the serious
nature of the allegation, the Committee requested the Government, as well as the
complainant organization, to provide updated information on the criminal proceedings
against Mr Straschenco.
- 27. In the absence of any updated information on the criminal
proceedings, either from the complainant organization or from the Government, trusting
that the pending judicial decision will be in accordance with freedom of association,
the Committee considers that this case is closed and does not require further
examination.
