Article 7(2)(b) of the Convention. Removing children from the worst forms of child labour and providing for their rehabilitation and social integration. The Committee takes note of the Government’s indication that the established response and referral pathways for the provision of comprehensive support to victims, including victims of the worst forms of child labour, focus on several key areas: (1) the provision of immediate assistance by the police, including safe accommodation; (2) rehabilitation of victims, which may encompass psychological support, educational opportunities, and skills training to help them recover and reintegrate into society; (3) social integration programmes, which are provided through service providers like “Christian care centre” and “Seif Place for victims”; and (4) perpetrators are held accountable through legal processes, reinforcing the message that child labour and abuse are unacceptable. It therefore requests the Government to provide information on the number of child victims of the worst forms of child labour who have been identified and who received the necessary direct assistance.
Clause (d). Identifying and reaching out to children at special risk.Children in street situations. The Committee notes the UNICEF Rapid Assessment on the Situation of Children Working and Living on the Streets in Solomon Islands (2024), which highlights that: 1 out of 170 children interviewed (115 boys and 55 girls), 35 per cent are working in the streets and 9 per cent live in the streets; and (2) 25 per cent of these children never attended school. The Committee requests the Government to provide information on: (i) the measures taken to withdraw children from the streets and the type of assistance provided to ensure their rehabilitation and social integration; and (ii) the results achieved, including by indicating the number of children who were withdrawn from the streets.
